FCL to meet at KFIA Annual Meeting
Join us at the Kentucky Forest Industries Association annual meeting for the Fellowship of Christian Lumbermen meeting on Thursday March 29, 2012 at 1:30 pm at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky.
Past FCL gatherings like this have brought old friends together, spurred new friendships and, most importantly, provided opportunities for the Gospel to be presented. Join us for a great time of fellowship.
Global Demand Expanding
When U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack proclaimed 2011 as the International Year of the Forest, he apparently wasn’t kidding. The USDA’s new and overt support for increased wood utilization is a welcome development, especially after more than a decade of sharply reduced timber harvesting on our national forests. This is big news for our industry if the USDA’s recent actions, in fact, indicate the federal government is more willing to sell the message of sustainability and promote increased wood utilization. –from Hardwood Review Express
U.N. MARKET REVIEW
Overall North American and European consumption of forest products is increasing despite challenging economic conditions, according to a report recently issued by the United Nations. The Forest Products Annual Market Review 2010-2011, prepared by the U.N. Economic commission for Europe (UNECE) and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, found thatconsumption of forest products increased 5.6% last year in the UNECE region, a group of 56 countries including the U.S., Canada, all of Europe, Russia and most former Soviet-bloc nations (the Commonwealth of Independent States, or CIS), and Israel. The report also said that “trends in the first half of 2011 lend support to a continued, albeit modest, rise in consumption.” –from Hardwood Review Express
