David Caldwell joined the staff of the Hardwood Market Report as Assistant Editor in March of 2005. David brought with him 21 years experience in the hard­ wood lumber and veneer industries. Upon graduation from the University of Memphis, David began his hardwood lumber career by attending and graduating from the National Hardwood Lumber Association’s Inspection School in April of 1984. After gaining experience as a lumber inspector, he worked in hardwood lumber sales before delving into the sawmill business. Before joining Hardwood Market Report, David worked for a major flooring and sawmill company, managing sales and production of the sawmill division and oversight of 50 million board feet of hardwood lumber.

Raised in a Christian home, then drifting from the Lord. David was born again in December of 1989. David is involved in his local Church and the Fellowship of Christian Lumbermen.  (Email: david@hmr.com)

Ernie Casale has been in the lumber industry for about 32 years, starting behind a rip saw when he was 24 years old. Most of those years were spent as a mill or yard foreman, and then Ernie moved into sales.

He was about 9 years old when he went forward with his mother and brother to receive Jesus as his savior in a little church in Huntington Beach, Calif. Ernie started with the Fellowship of Christian Lumbermen near its inception in 2002. Since then he has been the editor of the FCL news letter “The Cubit” for three years and treasurer of the association since its beginning.

Model railroading is his favorite pastime, and he said a goal for the near futureis to serve God in his hobby by starting a Christian model railroading fellowship similar to the FCL. Ernie said he is also preparing to start teaching “ the truth project” at church, which is produced by Focus On The Family. He has been married to Debi for 33 years. Ernie said he could not have served as editor without her help. They have one daughter and a son-in-law that love the Lord. Ernie and Debie also have one grandson named Logan who is two.

Jon Pappas entered the lumber industry in 1977 with American Forest Products,and today is the owner of Sitco Lumber Company in Dallas, Texas. Jon was born in Portland, Ore. Jon grew up in Medford, Ore., with four brothers, and graduated high school there. He attended the University of Oregon on a football scholarship. After suffering an injury, however, he transferred and graduated from Arizona State University. In addition to being instrumental in the lumber industry, Jon served as campaign manager for Jerry Lausmann’s U.S. Congressional campaign, 4th district of Congress. Jon said he has many favorite Bible verses, but two of his all-time favorites are Matthew 5:3 and John 4:24.  (Email: j.pappas@sitco.com)

Ken Stubert spent over 45 years in the building material business before “retiring” in 2010. He then started his own company, KFS Management Services, LLC specializing in coaching executives in ways to improve products, policies,programs and profits. He also uses his experience and coaching skills to incorporate Christ-like examples in the workplace. An elder in the PresbyterianChurch, Ken worked extensively in his mission committee and participated and coordinated many short-term mission trips. Through the grace of God and under His direction, Ken and his wife were led to Bahamas where they are currently involved with the Harvest Foundation (www.harvestfoundationbahamas.com) working to improve life for some of the poorest people in the area.

As president of the Fellowship of Christian Lumbermen, Ken works to expand the membership beyond its current base by using new technology to reach out to newer younger members and Christians. Ken has been married to his wife Mary Lou for 42 years. They have two children and four grandchildren. They spend much of their time visiting them and traveling between their home in New Hampshire and the Bahamas. (Email: ksms49@gmail.com)

Wayde Day is the midwest regional sales manager for Independent Dispatch Inc. in Brunswick, Ohio. Wayde served as one of the original board members forFCL. He began with FCL after meeting with Chris Martinson, the first presidentfor the organization during the FCL’s first official meeting during an IHLA convention. Since that time, Wayde has been responsible for maintaining the FCL membership and the Cubit list. Wayde’s connection to the lumber industry is due to his company hosting a booth at the IHLA convention each year. He grew up in a Christian home and was saved at an early age. He attended Bible college and studied for the ministry.  In his 20s, he was a youth pastor and then moved into the secular field, but has continued to serve as a layman in chuches.

He and his wife Bernice had six children, five grandchildren and two on the way.In addition to FCL, he is involved in men’s weekly Bible study groups and men’s discipleship programs.  (Email: wday@independentdispatch.com)

Wayne Miller is a partner with his three brothers in Miller Wood Trade Publications in Memphis, Tenn. He joined National Hardwood Magazine, and related publications, in 1970. Prior to that, he served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era as a photographer/journalist.

Wayne became a born-again Christian in the mid-1970s worshipping in the Catholic Church with his wife of nine years, Lynne. He is the father of three adult children, two step-children, four grandchildren, and a fifth grandchild is due in August. Wayne enjoys landscaping/gardening, fitness through walking and biking, reading, music and spending time with friends and family. (Email: wayne@millerpublishing.com)
